چکیده

Leading-edge vortices that form at offdesign conditions can profoundly influence the aerodynamic characteristics of highly swept slender wings. predict wing geometry effects on the progressive spanwise development of leading-edge vortices is presented. This method, which can account for sweep, camber, twist, airfoil shape, flap deflections, and planform shape, is shown to be a useful tool for aerodynamic design studies. It is shown that suppressing the leading-edge vortex, particularly over the inboard portion of the wing, can cause considerable reduction in drag due to lift. parametric studies are shown. A straightforward method that can Results of wing geometry

An Experimental Investigation of the Flowfield over a Low Aspect Ratio Wing

A wind tunnel investigation was performed to study the flow field over a 70° swept sharped edge delta wing model at high angles of attack. The experiments were conducted in the subsonic wind tunnel at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sharif University of Technology. Velocity profiles have been measured using a special pitot tube and hot wire anemometer at angles of attacks of 10 to 35 ...

When vortices stick: an aerodynamic transition in tiny insect flight.

We have used computational fluid dynamics to study changes in lift generation and vortex dynamics for Reynolds numbers (Re) between 8 and 128. The immersed boundary method was used to model a two-dimensional wing through one stroke cycle. We calculated lift and drag coefficients as a function of time and related changes in lift to the shedding or attachment of the leading and trailing edge vort...

Experimental Investigation of Asymmetry of Vortex Flow Over Single Delta Wings

It is generally believed that, on slender delta wings, there is a critical state at which strong asymmetric vortices are found along the leading edge on the lee-side of the delta wing. These asymmetric vortices can lead to high lateral forces even when slender delta wing is at the zero angle of yaw. Some experimental studies reported recently, cast considerable doubt as to the validity of the a...

Effect of a Sinusoidal Leading Edge Pattern on Flat Plate Boundary Layer Flow

Aerofoils with a sinusoidal leading edge pattern have been the subject of the study during the recent decade due to its considerable effect on the aerodynamics performance. The leading edge variation results in the formation of streamwise counterrotating vortices which affect the boundary layer development on aerofoils. To understand the influence of the leading edge variation to the boundary l...
